With over 25 years of experience in education, Corey Helgesen is honored to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services at the Trinity County Office of Education (TCOE). Since transitioning to TCOE about a year ago, Corey has found profound fulfillment in the amazing collaborative spirit of his colleagues and the impactful nature of county-level work.
His career began in the classroom as a middle school math and science teacher, where he also served as a coach for football and wrestling. This laid the foundation for 20 years in administration, where he served as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Director, and Superintendent. Corey was a founder and lead consultant for charter school start-ups, successfully helped open a middle college consortium to expand student opportunities, and also opened a Great Start Readiness PK program to support early childhood education. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, both a Master’s and Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University, and CLAD certification from the University of California, Los Angeles.
At TCOE, Corey focuses his efforts toward the vision of County Superintendent, Fabio Robles, and works side-by-side with coordinators and instructional coaches to drive excellence in LCAP, Differentiated Assistance (DA), Williams Act compliance, and policy modifications. He is a dedicated partner to LEA leaders, providing oversight for state and federal compliance while leading board and ELA district trainings and county events.
Beyond the office, Corey is supported by his companion wife and is the proud father of seven children and eight grandsons. He enjoys creating music and exploring the world through travel, loves the outdoors, and finds peace in water in all forms. Corey remains deeply committed to cultivating an environment where every educator and student can thrive. Dedicated to Trinity’s students and leaders.
