Paraprofessional Testing
To Meet State Requirements for Employment as an Instructional Aide:
- You must take three test sections include Reading-Language Arts, Ability to Assist Classroom Instruction and Mathematics.
- Individuals MUST pre-register - Please call 623-2861
- Please bring a current/valid ID & Social Security Card
- Each section must be passed with a 70% or higher
- You will be able to use a calculator (provided by the test administrator)

All tests are administered at the TCOE office.
Ways to Prepare for the Certification Testing
- Practice tests are available online. Search for the practice CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) Math and ELA tests to prepare.
- Khan Academy - Math problem solving, fractions, percentages, averages, areas, simplifying
CDE Paraprofessional Requirements
The following are requirement to perform the duties of a Paraprofessional in California
- Have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and
- Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction
- Local educational agencies may also have specific requirements for employment.
Para Professional Exam may be forgone if one of the following requirements have been met
- High school diploma or the equivalent, and two years of college or 48 units completed
- AA Degree or higher
