Hazard Mitigation Plan Project
In an effort to increase the disaster readiness and resiliency of the schools within our county, the Trinity County Office of Education (TCOE) is leading the development of a hazard mitigation plan. This document will include a risk assessment of hazards present to Trinity County schools - such as wildfire, power outages, and drought - and an action plan to reduce those risks.
The Trinity County Resource Conservation District (TCRCD) has been contracted with (via a public procurement process) to facilitate the plan development. This project is funded by a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
WHAT IS A HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN?
A hazard mitigation plan is a 5-year plan which focuses on hazard risk identification and mitigation planning. Public outreach and involvement are a required component in the planning process.
WHICH SCHOOLS ARE INVOLVED?
This plan will review risk to students, staff, and facilities at the following school districts: • Burnt Ranch Elementary School District • Coffee Creek Elementary School District • Douglas City Elementary School District • Junction City Elementary School District • Lewiston Elementary School District • Mountain Valley Unified School District • Southern Trinity Joint Unified School District • Trinity Alps Unified School District • Trinity Center Elementary School District

The plan is in public review from September 10, 2025 through October 10, 2025. We are eager to hear your feedback!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD?
The 2025 draft of the TCOE HMP is available for your review.
