Jack London State Park
The Jack London State Park was the first place we visited.  Jack London was an author.  He wrote a lot of adventure books.  He was a traveler. Did you know that he had a ship?  It was named the Snark.  Some of the places he traveled were Alaska, the South Seas and around the Pacific Ocean.
Jack London bought that very place in Sonoma that we visited.  He built the Wolf House.  A spontaneous combustion caused a fire just before he moved in.  They have the ruins on display.
The name of his ranch was the Beauty Ranch.  He raised Shire horses and he experimented in agriculture.
We leaned all of this stuff from the museum. The museum is two stories. It was originally a house, built by Londonís wife.  They have a model of the Wolf House.  They also have a model of the Snark.  There was a video, artifacts that London collected and things that belonged to his wife.
Jack London State Park is a great place to visit!

          The Sonoma Mission
The Sonoma mission was so nice.  The dining room had long tables for the Indians and padres would eat their meals.  The benches were a bit uncomfortable.  I bet that the children would have to sit on their knees in order the eat.  In the chapel the padres would kneel and pray to God.  The chapel had the pictures of Jesus and how he was put on the cross.  There were places were we couldnít go like up to where the bell ringer would ring the bell.
My favorite place was the garden.  The flowers and veggies all together made the garden very pretty. The wishing well was really awesome. I wish we could have gone through the place were the cactuses were but the cactuses had been growing too much.  The souvenir shop was cool, too. I want to go there again soon.

Vallejoís House
We went to Vallejoís House in the morning on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.  The house had two rooms downstairs and bedrooms upstairs.  The bedrooms had fancy furniture and rooms just for kids.  The living room had a couch, tables, and musical instruments.  Outside was a big pond with turtles, ducks and fish.  There were two other small houses outside.  There were flowers and a nice garden.

    Trains
The Hoaglin-Zenia School went to a Train Museum at 3:00 on Tuesday May 16th. The Train Museum is in Sacramento near the Sacramento River, and there are a lot of old buildings by it.  The museum was fun because we got to go on some trains.  There were a lot of trains in the museum.  The trains were gigantic and the whistles had loud, blood-curdling sounds.  We got on one of the trains that felt like it was really moving.  It shook once in a while and the sounds sounded like we were flying by signs and other things.
We all enjoyed the museum!

                     The State Capitol
The older kids of the Hoaglin Zenia School went on a trip to the state capitol on Wednesday the 17th of May. They saw lots of things there like the county exhibits and exhibits of old offices. We saw things that survived the 1906 earthquake like dolls. We saw 2 movies that were about the 1906-earthquake: one only showed pictures and sound (no lyrics), and the second movie was 3D with lyrics and sound effects.
We saw the governorís office.  We saw the two legislative chambers. One was the Senate and the second was the Assembly. Than we went to the gift shop and than we took two pictures in front of the capital.

   Sutterís Fort
On Wednesday, May 17, Hoaglin-Zenia school went to a place in Sacramento called Sutterís Fort.  Do you know how big the thing was?  Didnít think so.  Well, you might think that itís a huge place inside, well boy, I have some news for you!  It may seem huge in pictures, but itís actually the right size for a few little work huts.
When we reached the gates, we looked up and it was tall.  Also, there were two small cannons behind bars.  Obviously, they were not working cannons, that would be way too dangerous.  So we entered the gates.  We paid our fee and walked to a barrel.  The barrel could talk! What a surprise, we pushed a button and it talked! Anyway, after about ten minutes, the barrel stopped talking to us.  Finally, we were free to roam the Fort.
We then walked to a small little room that turned out to be bedroom sized.  It displayed things about the mission.  It had two little window display things that had mirrors on the top and a model of the fort on the bottom.  When you flip a light switch, you could see what it was like up front or have a birds eye view of it.
The next stop was a room where they held other cannons and there was a huge and cold cellar next to it, I still wander what was held in there.
Then we came across two out of bound rooms that had a room for blacksmithing and one for making candles.  There was also another out of bound room where guns and other weapons were held.  I donít think Iíve ever seen guns that long in my life.
More out of bounds rooms came in our way, they were for tack and other equipment.  After a couple more of those rooms, there was a walk through room.  It displayed types of work people had there.  Then the other walk through was about doctors, knitters and things like that.
Then, we got to go to the gift shop! Yay, well, it actually wasnít all that fun.
After our money was spent, we saw more blacksmithing, candles and tack.
 It really was pretty interesting.

            The Weaverville Museum
The Weaverville Museums were so cool.  The kids at Hoaglin Zenia School got to see an old fashion DVD player. It was more a music player instead if DVD player.  There was also an armory as well as a slot machine and the dresses and hats that girls would wear back then.  Down stairs there was some old theater seats they were comfy and really soft.  Xinza got sick before we went down stairs.  Nikki had to take them to the drug store to get some medicine.
The next place we stopped at was the black smith shop he showed us how they made nails back then and chimney pipe.  The black smith gave us the chimney pipe and some nails that he made.
We also went to the stamp mill. The stamp mill is were you crush the rock into soft sand and the you get the gold from the sand.  The guys let us hold some gold it was way heavier than what it looks like.  We went in to a cabin were a miner would live during the cold months.   We went into a place were it showed how wagons changed over the years.  We also got to see how hydraulic mining was done.  The guy told us that would be gold in the wooden crate.  Every one wanted some gold so they ran.  Misty got the most because she pushed when some one tried to get a piece.  Nikkie made her give every one an another piece.
(The gold were painted rocks.)

The Joss House
On May 18, the Hoaglin Zenia Schools 3rd through 7th graders went to a Chinese temple called the Joss House. To Chinese, the temple is called Cloud Forest Temple. When we walked in the tour guide said that bad spirits always have to walk straight so the Chinese made a false door that couldnít be opened. To the left and right there are walk ways but the bad spirits didnít like to take turns so they never did make it all the way into the temple.
Inside the temple were statues of Chinese ancestors. There was also quilts. On the quilts were bats. The reason why there was bats is because bats are very important to the Chinese. The tour guide said there are more than 36 bats in the temple.  The tour guide also said that the Chinese wore white to funerals. So when they were promised rich Chinese business men to marry in California, when it came to the day of their wedding the Chinese women though they were going to die because they had to wear white so they freaked out.  There was also different kind of flags in the corner along with a statue of a Chinese guard.
There is another door going into a different room. That room is a school- room.  The Chinese thought old news was very bad. On there papers there were tiny pieces of silver in it so bad spirits couldnít get in because bad spirits didnít like seeing their ugly faces. What the silver pieces did was made a little reflection of your face so the bad spirits didnít go in there. The schoolteacher lived in a little room in the schoolhouse because they had to live there. The schoolmaster had to live there until he died. Sounds very harsh. I would hate to have to be a Chinese teacher because I wouldnít like to live my whole life at the place I worked and then die there. The school was small but it was nice. There was 3 bench chairs that looked like it could fit 5 kids on it. In the middle of the room was an old looking stove that had a place on the top that looked like it was used for cooking. On the wall was old news, new news, and a long piece of paper that had all the different Chinese words and letters on it. Our tour guide said there are a lot of ways to write words in Chinese. I think that that is pretty neat. Tell you the truth I think the whole place was neat. I bet if you were there you wouldíve thought it was neat also.

                          Bowling
The older Kids of Hoaglin Zenia School took a field trip and on that trip we went bowling. We went bowling at the Weaverville bowling alley called Trinity Lanes. There was a nice man that works at the bowling alley who kept the bowling alley open for us. We got our bowling balls and started playing. The best players where Asa, Tristan, Ms. D., Nicky and Xinza. But we all did well. Afterward, we got pizza.
