LEWISTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of Lewiston, seek to:

TECHNOLOGY VISION STATEMENT

Our vision is to create an educational environment where all students can take full advantage of technological resources to develop the lifelong learning skills necessary to be a productive adult in society.
Curriculum

Lewiston Elementary School is implementing curriculum based on the California State Standards. Each year we more closely align curriculum, instruction and assessments to the standards. Our staff embraces the use of technology to promote learning in all subject areas. Every classroom provides internet access to the teacher and is networked to the school server. All classrooms in grades 2-8 also provide supervised and filtered internet access to students, as does the library and computer lab. Every student receives small-group and individual instruction in computer skills and information literacy beginning in Kindergarten. All students are receiving training in the technology benchmarks.

The classroom teachers work effectively with the technology specialist, library-media technician, and visual and performing arts specialists to focus all efforts on meeting the standards. The chart, "Curriculum Goals and Implementation Plan by Content Area and California Grade Level Standards", provides specific and realistic benchmarks for integrating the use of technology into all curricular areas to meet standards.

Responsibility

Classroom teachers are responsible for assuring that their students meet these benchmarks. They are responsible for creating a reasonable timeline to complete these benchmarks by the end of the school year. The technology specialist and library specialist are responsible for providing focused lessons in the skills necessary to use technology to meet standards throughout the curriculum. The technology specialist will meet with each teacher at least each mid-trimester and end-trimester to verify and update portfolio entries documenting the accomplishment of technology benchmarks needed at that grade level. The technology specialist and library specialist take students in their reading level groups each week for library and computer time. In this way they can gear lessons to the reading level of the students. The special education teacher will provide additional support for students. After each trimester grading period, teachers will meet to review and share portfolio entries for technology benchmarks.
