The monitor is my favorite of all the gold rush things. It is my favorite because it blows a lot of water. It was made in the 1850's. It can shoot water a mile long and a half a mile wide. It is made of cast iron. The people who used it were miners. It was used to find gold. It shot on mountain-sides and hills. It washed the dirt down the hills. Some of the gold was stuck in the mountain. The rest of the gold that washed down was passed through sluices and the heavier gold got left behind.
