IT'S A DRILL!!! If you see emergency vehicles such as law enforcement, ambulances and fire trucks heading to the Douglas City School campus on Friday, May 18, don't be alarmed. We are participating in a county wide emergency drill and the scenario is that a major earthquake has struck Trinity County and caused a crack in the Trinity Dam. Though this is a highly unlikely event, our emergency agencies do need to be prepared - thus the drill.
Mr. Belongia's class will be actively involved by role playing injuries that are a result of the earthquake and a few students will actually be evacuated by ambulance.
The agencies taking part in this drill have requested that people do not converge on the school campus to watch as this could interfere with the effectiveness of this training exercise. We thank you for your help. It certainly will be an interesting day!

The kindergarten track meet held yesterday on the Douglas City School campus was a smashing success. The weather was perfect and kids and adults alike had a great time. Based on an informal polling process, it appears that the sponge toss was the run away favorite event followed closely by the hurdles.
The older students did a wonderful job of running the events and supervising their assigned groups of kindergartners.

The kindergarteners and their 8th grade helpers will plant flowers in the Douglas City flower garden next to the store on Monday, May 21. After planting flowers, they will walk to the Douglas City Fire Hall where the Fire Bells plan to serve hot dogs and give them a tour. Donations of flowers to plant would be very much appreciated whether or not you have a kindergartener - thank you!
On a related note, a group of older students were weeding the flower beds last week to prepare for the flower planting when a fabulously generous gentleman purchased ice cream bars for all of the participating students to thank them for giving of themselves to serve their community. What a wonderful gesture - Thank you so much!
