Greetings from Sarah:

Ninety-six students and still growing strong…Burnt Ranch School is my neighborhood school.

I consider it a privilege to be able to work here. My husband and I have been living in Burnt

Ranch since March of 2003, just up the road from the school. Prior to that time I have lived in

other local communities: Somes Bar, Orleans, and Hoopa. I’ve been working in the education

field since I first moved to this area in 1982, soon after graduating from college in Portland, Oregon.

Burnt Ranch School is a small school with big appeal. The members of the staff here are some of

the most dedicated people you will ever meet in a school district, and it shows in the recent STAR

test scores. The test scores are exemplary. Here are just a few of the highlights:

• 85% of our 7th graders are advanced in math. Another 15% are proficient. That means that 100% of our

7th graders are completely competent or advanced in mathematics along with 80% of our 8th grade students.

• 84% of those same 7th grade students are either advanced or proficient in English/Language Arts as well.

• 69% of our 6th grade students also tested advanced or proficient in math AND in English/Language Arts

• 77% of our 5th graders tested advanced or proficient in math

• 83% of our third grade students did the same

 • NONE of our students scored far below basic

Parents love sending their kids to Burnt Ranch School. They like the child-focused environment.

Staff members like to work here too. One teacher recently said, “It’s like we are one big happy family.”

A supplemental services provider said that our school was her favorite school to serve. One parent summed it up:

"Burnt Ranch Elementary School is everything we could want in an elementary school for our daughter;

veteran teachers who still love their jobs and are committed to academic excellence; a learning environment

where the students are treated with love, respect, and high expectations - all within the context of a community

that strives for a bright future for our children... oh, and the view's not bad, either!"
