BURNT RANCH SCHOOL
FEATURED TEACHER

Mr. Rudy Breuning

"Born and raised in Michigan, I spent my first two college years at
Western Michigan University studying Behavioral Psychology.
At 20 years of age I moved to Alaska, where I worked in an after
school program with Kindergartners and first graders. Summers
I spent in the Alaska "Bush", living in indigenous villages, where
I taught swimming/cold water survival to Inupiaq (arctic) , Yu'pik,
and Athapaskan (Yukon River) children and youth. In 1985 I
moved to Arcata, where I earned a B.A. in English, an M.A. in
Education, and most recently, a Teaching Credential.
My work history since moving to California was predominantly
in Outdoor Science schools, (4 of them), where I served as Field
Instructor, Site Director, Head Naturalist, and Medical Technician.
For 5 years I was the Healthy Start Coordinator at Trinity Valley
Elementary. Most recently I worked as a Project Coordinator and
Grant Writer for the Seventh Generation Fund. I was the founding
Coordinator of the Raven Project in Eureka, founding Lead Ropes
Course Instructor in Freshwater, and the founding Vice President
of DreamQuest in Willow Creek. I also served briefly as the start-up
President of the Trinity River Land Conservancy. More importantly,
I am the proud father of 3 great girls, and live happily with my wife
Arlene in the home we built by hand over 7 years, right here in
Burnt Ranch, where we hope to age gracefully."
